The key to being successful in any business is actually incredibly simple and almost too obvious to mention, yet it's a principle that seems to elude so many today. In the realm of any relationship business, personal or with yourself, where promises can often fly as freely as the wind, the #1 secret to standing out from your competition is...do what you say you will do.


The part of this people get wrong is that they over promise from Day 1, which makes it virtually impossible to over-deliver. I know many times people don't intentionally set out to not deliver on what they say they will do but be mindful of this before you make commitments. Being your honest, authentic self goes so much further in establishing trust with others and if you found yourself in a position you have overcommitted be honest, transparent and quick to let them know instead of trying to ask for forgiveness or make excuses later.


By doing what you say you will do, you automatically place yourself head and shoulders above the competition. It's a competitive advantage that can't be overstated. In a world where trust is currency, being known as someone who keeps their word is invaluable.
